Benefits of Combining CBD With Swimming

Swimming provides a full-body workout, targeting various muscle groups simultaneously. It offers the ideal stimulus for muscle development across the entire body, yet is easier on your joints versus a typical workout in the gym. If done regularly and with a consistent schedule, swimming particularly helps to work the shoulders, abs, arms, legs, and gluteal muscles amongst many others.

However, swimming can be intense. In fact, it’s equivalent to a workout in the gym. It’s no wonder that swimmers are just as susceptible to sore or painful muscles the next day, just like the average gym-goer. Thankfully, there are solutions to ease the aches! As discussed below, muscle soreness of this kind can be alleviated with the use of CBD during the recovery period.

Let’s explore the various ways in which you can aid your post-swim recovery and how CBD could be incorporated.

Finishing off a Swimming Session

Cool down

This is a must. Ironically, the best way to do this is to get back in the pool! A few more laps of gentle strokes will allow your muscles to slowly cool down. If you skip this step and head straight to the showers, your muscles will cool down too rapidly, increasing the likelihood of muscle soreness the next day. So, jump back in!

Stretching

In addition to your warmup, dynamic stretches can help with active recovery after your session. Take a moment to stretch whilst breathing deeply to lower your heart rate in a slow and controlled manner.

Hydration! Have we said this already?

It’s that important, that we’re mentioning it again. This time, for the end of your session. When submerged in water, it’s easy to underestimate how much you actually sweat. Replenish the fluids you’ve lost by drinking plenty of water post-session. Keeping hydrated after your session will also help prevent extremely sore muscles the day after.

CBD Oil to aid in post-swim recovery

Evidence suggests that CBD can help with pain management. The supplement has been found to produce mild effects on CB2 receptors located in the peripheral lymphoid tissues. It can act as a mediator for the release of cytokines by immune cells, thus, helping to reduce overall pain and inflammation. There are more studies to be carried out, but the results of CBD and pain management so far are already very promising.

Topical and oral CBD products have been involved in studies exploring the relationship between CBD and post-workout recovery. CBD by BRITISH CANNABIS has products for each type of application. For topical use, our CBD Dermal Patches are perfect for an all-day, slow release of CBD to targeted areas.

Alternatively, our best-seller, CBD RESCUE CREAM®, is clinically proven to repair, restore, and soothe your skin – available in 2 strengths. However, our favorite product for post-workout recovery is our 2000mg Refined CBD Oil. For best results, this oil should be taken sublingually by dropping it under the tongue and holding for 1-2 minutes before swallowing, or until completely absorbed for greater bioavailability. It could be the perfect addition to your post-swim recovery routine!
