Yes, in many cases CBD is extracted from cannabis plants. Cannabis sativa has two predominant species; hemp and marijuana.
Both contain CBD but hemp contains a lot more whilst having very low levels of THC, which is the part that gives a ‘high’. THC is restricted from appearing in food products. So most CBD is extracted from ‘hemp’.
I have encountered many people getting confused (or even misled!) by products containing hemp oil, the assumption being that these will also contain CBD. In fact this is not so. Hemp oil usually does not contain any cannabinoids, neither CBD, THC or others.
CBD is legal in the UK.

Three types of Cannabis are Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. They all have psychoactive properties.
After they are dried, the flowers of these plants are called marijuana, weed, or pot.
Cannabinoids is a collection of more than 100 compounds found in cannabis. Understanding Non-Regulated Supplementation
A set of lax laws govern supplements. Federal law requires that supplements are labeled as such but does not require that they be tested and approved by FDA before being sold. The law doesn’t require that supplements be labeled as such.
Before a supplement can be sold, it must be proven to be effective. Supplements are allowed to be sold before the FDA can take any action. Although supplement items are not allowed as cures or treatments for diseases, the FDA does not require that producers obtain FDA approval prior to developing, marketing, and selling such products.
How to Buy CBD Products
There are many ways you can be certain that the CBD UK product that you’re purchasing is safe. You can request a certificate confirming the analysis.
This certificate is a report from a third-party testing laboratory that gives a complete breakdown of all active and potentially dangerous chemicals in CBD products.
