Is CBD Medical Cannabis?

Dr Christian on 'is CBD medical cannabis?'

Yes, in many cases CBD is extracted from cannabis plants. Cannabis sativa has two predominant species; hemp and marijuana.

Both contain CBD but hemp contains a lot more whilst having very low levels of THC, which is the part that gives a ‘high’. THC is restricted from appearing in food products. So most CBD is extracted from ‘hemp’.

I have encountered many people getting confused (or even misled!) by products containing hemp oil, the assumption being that these will also contain CBD. In fact this is not so. Hemp oil usually does not contain any cannabinoids, neither CBD, THC or others.

CBD is legal in the UK.

BRITISH CANNABIS Answers Your Questions

Is CBD medical Cannabis?

Three types of Cannabis are Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. They all have psychoactive properties.

After they are dried, the flowers of these plants are called marijuana, weed, or pot.

Cannabinoids is a collection of more than 100 compounds found in cannabis. While more research is needed to comprehend the effects of the majority of these cannabinoids fully, scientists have discovered the two main components of cannabis, cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol, as well as their actions.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (or CBD) is a chemical compound found in cannabis plants that can be used to treat a wide range of conditions.

It binds to many brain receptors to produce therapeutic effects. The chemical is believed to be effective in seizure control, stress management, pain relief, and stress management.

Cannabidiol derived from hemp is generally lawful in Europe, and many parts of the United States because hemp has low levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), making it less likely to be abused.

What is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, is responsible for the high-energy feeling that many people feel after they consume cannabis.

The substance mimics anandamide’s activity in the brain by attaching to neurons and altering normal communication functions.

THC has been shown to have many health benefits. It can increase appetite for those who are struggling with eating, lower nausea in patients undergoing chemotherapy, and help people suffering from Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease.

It is not legal in all parts of Europe. Malta was the first to legalize possession for personal or recreational purposes, and several European countries have made it legal for medical use.

Despite being chemically identical, CBD and THC have different effects when taken.

CBD is an antioxidant and anti-convulsant. THC, on the other hand, has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Medical Cannabis UK

Medical marijuana is often referred to as medical cannabis. It refers to compounds that are derived from Cannabis sativa plants and used to treat certain medical conditions. Tetrahydrocannabinol, Cannabidiol, Cannabichromene, and Cannabinol are among the constituents of the drug. Each one serves a different purpose. THC is the main ingredient in marijuana.

The United States bans the use of Cannabis sativa and its derivatives for any purpose. However, many states allow medical marijuana to be used. The UK has a similar situation. Cannabis is allowed only for medical purposes. Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or HIV/AIDS, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, severe nausea from chemotherapy and other medical conditions can sometimes use marijuana for treatment. It is important to verify your state’s laws.

CBD vs Medical Cannabis

Although this misconception is true, particularly based on internet searches for CBD, it is not the same thing as medical marijuana.

CBD, when used in combination with coconut oil, has become a hugely popular topic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), approved it in 2018 for the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet, which are both paediatric epilepsy conditions.

Doctors often give medical cannabis to patients in order to treat side effects or chronic conditions.

These CBD products can be purchased without the need for a prescription and are not subject to any restrictions. They can be purchased online, at markets and in retail stores by people who are unable to receive them as medication. The quality and consistency of chemicals can be very different.

The dangers of CBD products that are not prescribed

The CBD industry has grown rapidly to a multibillion dollar business. Future sales are expected to be even higher.

The ingredient has become so popular that it is found in many sweets and beers. Due to the popularity of this substance, people must do extensive research before buying it.

When purchasing unprescribed products, the THC/CBD ratio should be one of your most important considerations. Unfortunately, there are no regulatory authorities that can ensure that CBD products are properly regulated. According to the law, hemp that contains more than 0.3% THC is not considered hemp. It is now called marijuana.

False information and product mislabelling are another problem. Recent studies have shown that many CBD products’ labels contain incorrect information. Many have CBD levels that are higher or lower than what is listed on the labels, and high levels of THC.

Uncertainty in regulatory legislation is however the most serious problem. For example, the FDA has asked retailers to stop selling CBD products that claim they can cure a range of conditions.

However, there have not been any harsh penalties and many of the products’ actual contents are unknown.

Understanding Non-Regulated Supplementation

A set of lax laws govern supplements. Federal law requires that supplements are labeled as such but does not require that they be tested and approved by FDA before being sold. The law doesn’t require that supplements be labeled as such.

Before a supplement can be sold, it must be proven to be effective. Supplements are allowed to be sold before the FDA can take any action. Although supplement items are not allowed as cures or treatments for diseases, the FDA does not require that producers obtain FDA approval prior to developing, marketing, and selling such products.

How to Buy CBD Products

There are many ways you can be certain that the CBD UK product that you’re purchasing is safe. You can request a certificate confirming the analysis.

This certificate is a report from a third-party testing laboratory that gives a complete breakdown of all active and potentially dangerous chemicals in CBD products.

It should include information about the THC, CBD and other harmful substances found in the product, as well as the quantity of each product.

You can also read the product labels carefully to determine how much CBD is contained in each serving. This is especially helpful if you are dealing with CBD-infused sweets and chocolates.

If the information is clear and easy to understand, then the company is probably legitimate.
